I have always been intrigued by the cubist paintings of Braque and Picasso. They must have had some very interesting conversations as they challenged each other to perfect the art form. Braque and Picasso Having Coffee represents my attempt to envision such a setting as they would in making a cubist painting. Like all of my monotypes, this piece was made with a single plate — a very challenging way of making a multi-color monotype. One striking curiosity is the random appearance of a mask that bears some resemblance to one of the faces of the women in Le demoiselles d’Avignon.
